Position:              Bar Back              


Reports To:         Bartender/Restaurant Manager  


Classification:   Non-Exempt


Position Description

The Bar Back is responsible for assisting the Bartenders and Servers by making sure that the bar has been properly and completely stocked. The Bar Back is also responsible for assisting in all bar operations during service. The Bar Back will be assisting the bar with all necessary bar prep during shifts in anticipation of both AM and PM shift needs.


  • Follows all bar procedures when handling preparation of bar stock and products, including proper labeling, walk-in storage organization and Department of Health compliance and maintenance (both at the bar and in the back of the house prep area).
  • Completely fills all ice bins with fresh ice at the beginning of AM shift, as well as refilling with fresh ice between the conclusion of lunch service and at the start of PM dinner service.
  • Assists bartenders to make sure that the bar has been properly and completely stocked prior to the start of service, bringing up to par levels all necessary bar products
  • Complies with all sanitation and safety regulations and standards

Skills and/or Experience

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Minimum of 1-year Bar Back experience required
  • Able to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely
  • Knowledge of the menu and beverage list and the ability to communicate clear suggestions to the customers


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
  • Incumbent is occasionally required to taste or smell
  • Push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs on a weekly basis.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and work in a standing position for a long period of time


Work Environment

  • Must be comfortable working in a shared space, with constant noise, without the use of a private office
  • Must be able to cope with frequent changing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of optimism, professionalism & collaboration
  • Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 40 hours with or without notice including weekends, nights, holidays
